The Lost Song
The magi are the practitioners of magic in the contemporary age. They are able to somehow use music to cast things; it is commonly known that some of the most powerful magi are also incredible musicians or performers. It is also assumed that at almost all musical events, magic is happening somewhere – especially those that are of a more underworld nature. Dr. Devin MacGregor is credited with the discovery of magic in the modern day.
While Resolution #21 has made the world government officially tolerant of the existence of magi, this has not changed the opinions of most people and many governments still maintain their prior positions towards magi. Public opinion holds that magi are dangerous; they wield a power that cannot be controlled or even understood through conventional means. Governmental positions are mostly the same; magi represent a potential danger to the control of the state since they are able to do things that the government cannot control. Thus many magi, especially prominent or “dangerous” ones, are arrested, abducted, or outright eliminated; magical proceedings are monitored in what ways are possible; many magi living openly are required to register or are sent to camps or prisons; magi are brainwashed or blackmailed into working with the government; and special task forces have been set up in almost every country across the globe to assist the governments in “dealing with the magi problem.” Thus, though the magi are officially recognized by the UCN, their status is still very much in limbo throughout most of the world, and most magi remain hidden, underground, or at least refrain from using their abilities in public.
There does not appear to be any centralized command structure for the magi, though Dr. Devin MacGregor has achieved some notoriety as the “leader” of their movement. However, they appear to be a disparate and disunited group. Regardless, during times of alien attacks (especially during the Invasion) many magi appeared out of nowhere to assist conventional forces in the defenses.
