The August Assaults

The August Assaults

On the 27th of August, the Decia launched a planet-wide raid, striking six major cities across the world. San Diego, CA was hit, as was Huntington, AL; Wuhan, China; Vladivostok, Russia; Porto Alegre, Brazil; and Singapore. Each city had an important military or strategic significance. The attack was far more extensive than any other Decian raids since the Invasion of Australia.
The damage from the assaults were bad enough, but the political ramifications have been difficult to overcome as well. Military leaders and scientists continue to argue that in order to build up space dominance, the space forces of the PDF must remain concentrated. This effectively means that large sections of the skies would remain unpatrolled by space forces until humanity has created the means to defend itself in those sectors.
Politicians and national leaders, especially of the areas that were attacked (which happen to be some of the largest space-producing nations of the world), have argued that space forces must be dispersed to provide a modicum of protection – at least warning – that raids are incoming, so that an effective response can be mounted. Military leaders state that this is suicide, splitting the already weak PDF space corps so that it could be overwhelmed by a Decian attack in orbit.
